Tatung chooses Starent for WiMax equipment

December 17, 2016

Tatung InfoComm, a WiMax licensee for southern Taiwan, has chosen Starent Networks as its WiMax equipment provider.

Starent will supply its ST40 and ST16 multimedia core platforms for Tatung’s commercial and test WiMax networks, enabling Tatung to provide high bandwidth multimedia services.

The system will support multiple radio vendor base stations through an open WiMax interface architecture.

Tatung will also use Starent platforms for lawful intercept to ensure QoS control and content awareness.

Peter Yen, president of Tatung, said Starent provides the high performance and availability needed by the company.

Yen added that he is confident of delivering ‘exceptional’ subscriber experience using the Starent platform.

Ashraf Dahod, Starent Networks CEO, said that Starent’s solutions would be the first WiMax core network covering the whole of Taiwan.

Tatung will launch WiMax services in certain rural and suburban locations in the first quarter of next year.

The service is expected to improve the local tourism and agricultural industries.

Live services in major cities will be launched in the third quarter of 2017.
